AMS

The standard perspective for hosting a web site is "whatever’s cheapest." This "hosting plan" is, in reality, no plan at all. Rather, the site is produced and placed on a server for the world to access. It sits there – unmarketed, unmaintained, unreviewed – and the hosting company gladly collects a check each month for their "hard work." Worse yet, 95% of all web sites reside in server farms where up to 500 (yes, Five Hundred) web sites are crammed into a single server. This would put a strain on even the most top-of-the-line servers, but the reality is that most servers are inefficient machines that merely "work." As a result, the client gets a cheap price, but no real return on their investment.

Desert Bloom has a unique perspective on hosting: it should be feature-rich and tailored to the client’s needs. To this end, they break the various components of their program down into distinct roles that, collectively, are called the AMS Package. From siteHOST (the actual serving of the web site), to siteSTATS and siteUPDATE, Desert Bloom strives to maximize their client’s investment – not just during the production phase, but also from month to month.

SiteHOST

Desert Bloom Productions does NOT offer the cheapest hosting solutions on the planet. In fact, Desert Bloom does not offer a single, stand-alone hosting solution at all. Rather, siteHOST is packaged with a robust solution called AMS (Administration, Maintenance, & Serving). What if Desert Bloom DID offer a pure hosting solution? Would it then be the cheapest on the planet? Absolutely not.

Why?

Reason #1: Desert Bloom Does Not Use "Server Farms"

While packing 300-500 web sites onto a single server would save a significant amount of money, it would severely negate the server’s performance. Desert Bloom guarantees transfer speeds of T-1 or faster; the only way to do that is by maintaining a minimal number of web sites on each server.

Reason #2: Desert Bloom’s Servers Are Top-of-the-Line

Technology: IBM's xSeries Servers
Windows Server 2003
Red Hat's Enterprise Linux
Netscreen Firewall Appliances
Foundary Server Iron Load Balancing

Reason #3: Desert Bloom’s Infrastructure Is State-of-the-Art

Desert Bloom is part of the most state-of-the-art data center in the business:

  • Facility Exterior: 10,000 square foot, raised, former-bank, built to withstand flooding and Category 5 storms
  • Maximum Security: Microchip Badge entrance, biometric scanning, overhead cameras, security personnel, motion and heat detection devices
  • Connectivity: Provided by two separate Local Loop providers, connected to multiple, tier one IP Transit Backbone Providers
  • Super NOC: Network Operations Center located in middle of building, utilizing state-of-the-art hardware and software. Constant network monitoring ensures that there is always a 2-to-1 ratio of available bandwidth to peak bandwidth
  • Fiber Core: Desert Bloom’s data center is located directly on multiple diverse fiber rings, and is redundantly connected to IP carriers by two separate local providers
  • Gigabit Fiber Cabling: Multiple Gigabit Ethernet connections travel via diverse entries, diverse paths, and diverse POPs to three of the world’s largest IP transit carriers, Qwest, Williams, and Cogent
  • Diesel Generator: The 1.5 megawatt Onan Generator can supply the required electrical power to the entire complex.

siteUPDATE

A major aspect of the AMS Package is siteUPDATE. Many clients wish to be able to update their web site – or parts of their web site – independently. Others have a technician or a team who know how to code changes into their web site. However, many simply do not want to spend the money up front to build updating automation into the site, or would rather that professional webmasters make the changes on their behalf. In fact, it has been Desert Bloom’s experience that even those organizations that have technical pelple on their payroll often need Desert Bloom to update their web site in some way.

Each client is different. Some may only need four hours of maintenance each quarter. Others need several hours every month. Therefore, Desert Bloom consults with each client to understand their unique needs and tailor siteUPDATE and AMS to meet those expectations.

siteSTAT

An integral part of any hosting plan should be statistics reporting. However, with most hosting companies, you would be lucky to be able to access an online representation of any aspect of how users access your web site. Through our partnership with WebTrends, Desert Bloom offers you in-depth site analysis. Whether you are looking to increase your number of users, optimize the effectiveness of a promotion, improve site navigation, or just get an understanding of how your site is being utilized, siteSTATS provides everyone in your organization the data that they need to make smarter decisions.

The AMS Package also includes siteFTP (File Transfer Protocol service) for sharing files over the Internet. This robust service addresses the need for a business-class FTP server. SiteFTP includes:

  • ODBC database support
  • Integrated SSL support for secure, encrypted file transfers
  • Up to an unlimited number of concurrent connections
  • Up to an unlimited number of user accounts
  • Support for directory mapping and links
  • Activity and traffic monitoring
  • FTP statistics (through siteSTATS)

siteFTP

siteFTP is as robust as FTP services get: it is as if you owned your own FTP server.

Desert Bloom is committed to providing you with every avenue by which to maximize your online presence and will diligently consult with you to determine the benefits that siteFTP might provide for your organization.

Online Communications

AMS includes full collaboration capabilities, including Web-based collaboration tools such as advanced Web mail with spam filtering, document management to let users store and share documents online, unlimited Web calendars with sharing and combined views, shared address book, and message boards. Despite the many features, the communication tools are remarkably easy to us, thanks to the well-designed and user-friendly interface that allows you to understand and use the system in a matter of minutes. It even includes a Java based instant messenger that allows you to chat with other users that are currently logged in. Desert Bloom\'s collaboration solution also includes secure instant messaging, access from Palm, PocketPC and WAP devices, access to remote files such as a network drive, and more.
